Educational Challenges
Children with FASD have many different educational challenges and every child is different. Some children have more severe symptoms than others. Children with FASD have a low IQ level and different types of learning disabilities. Poor memory is associated with FASD, and also trouble with problem solving. Children can also have trouble with vision and/or hearing, speech and language delays. Complications with coordination and lack of focus or attention can also appear. A child with FASD may also have hyperactivity and mood changes. It is important to remember that all of these symptoms are different from child to child depending on the amount of alcohol that was consumed and at what stage. Each child will have their own way of learning and coping with their disabilities. (Teresa Bergen and Winnie Yu September 17, 2012, Mayo Clinic Staff)
